While the most recent version of synthetic refrigerants (HFOs) is less destructive to the planet’s ozone layer, they generate PFASs (forever chemicals) when vented through leaks to the atmosphere (as seen above). The specific PFAS emitted by the breakdown of HFOs is TFA (triflouroacetic acid), which studies, authored by regulatory bodies and universities, have shown to be associated with tissue damage, cancers and other negative health effects in humans and animals.
